Parental Process for Exemption Request
Pursuant to s. 1002.20, F.S.; A public school student whose parent makes written request to the school principal shall be exempted from the teaching of reproductive health or any disease, including HIV/AIDS, in accordance with the provisions of s. 1003.42(3). The courses in the table below contain lesson content or assignments which cover material that can be exempted upon parental written request.
After you have reviewed the course lesson content and assignment table below and you wish to submit a request for exemption, please follow these steps:
- Step 1: Upon placement in the course(s) you will find the course Instructional Leader/Assistant Principal name and contact information on the teacher announcement page.
- Step 2: Send an email that includes your student’s first and last name, grade level, teacher name to the Instructional Leader/Assistant Principal with the course you are requesting your student receive lesson/assignment exemption from.
- Step 3: Upon receipt of the email the Instructional Leader/Assistant Principal will coordinate the exemption(s) with the teacher. Any assignment exemption will appear with an “ex” in your child’s gradebook.
- Step 4: The Instructional Leader/Assistant Principal will respond with approval that covers the lesson content that your child is now able to skip.
